# dragand > dragand is a macOS utility that puts a small two-part shelf on the right edge of the screen. It comes in only when needed: while a file is dragged, or when the pointer rests against the right edge. Drop a file on the top half (Hold) to keep a copy for 24 hours while the original stays put, or on the bottom half (Keep) to keep the file itself until you drag it out. It also has an optional clipboard history: off by default, 7 days, stored encrypted on the Mac, skips copies password managers mark private. No account; files and clipboard never leave the Mac (it only goes online to check the purchase). Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon or Intel. Available on the Mac App Store. ## Key facts - Hold: copy kept 24 hours of real time; the original is never modified; nothing clears in the first hour after the Mac wakes or the app launches. - If the original is deleted before the 24 hours are up, the item is marked "Original deleted" with a Keep link; unless kept, the copy still clears on time. - Keep: the file itself moves onto the shelf and stays until the user drags it out or uses Put Back. - Every action has Undo. After a drop, the shelf opens for a few seconds with the new item selected. - dragand appears as a small panel that slides in at the right edge only when needed: Hold / Keep while a file is dragged (a drop straight on it goes to the half under the pointer), Files / Clipboard when the pointer rests against the edge. It can be set to the left edge instead (Settings › General › Edge). It slides away afterwards and never comes in over another app's full-screen window; the shortcuts (⌃⌥⌘S shelf, ⌃⌘V clipboard) still work. - Files live in a normal folder the user chooses (default ~/Shelf). - Clipboard history: opt-in, 7 days, up to 300 items and 1 GB in all, encrypted, skips copies password managers mark private and excluded apps; Return copies, the user pastes with ⌘V. - Price: free download; a free 3-day trial the user starts (a $0 App Store item, never charged automatically, nothing to cancel); unlock for $9.99 one-time, for every Mac on the same Apple Account (no subscription). Without the trial or the unlock, dragand still works, but drops, the Files panel's row actions and Clipboard's copy keys wait 3 seconds first, at most once a minute; dragging files out, Put Back, Reveal, Quick Look, Undo and Settings never wait. Unlock and Restore Purchase are in Settings › General and dragand's right-click menu (Unlock dragand…). - Network: dragand only goes online to check the trial and purchase (RevenueCat, anonymous ID). Files and clipboard never leave the Mac. - Current version: 1.0. - Developer: altifacts.
